Valga Valka City Run medal 2025

The Valga Valka City Run, which debuted last year, is now part of the Rimi Eesti Linnajooksud series and will open the season on April 13.

Powered by Utilitas, the Valga Valka City Run is a unique sporting event in Estonia, as its courses run through two countries: Estonia and Latvia. The routes and distances remain unchanged from last year, as participants praised them. "Runners particularly appreciated the opportunity to race in two countries and the scenic views. Many participants who hadn’t visited Valka in years—or ever—were impressed by the surroundings," said Margus Lepik, board member of NGO Triatloniakadeemia. "By joining Estonia's largest running series, we hope to attract even more enthusiasts to Valgamaa, including those who haven't visited in a long time. Thanks to train connections, public transportation offers a convenient way to get here, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of it," Lepik added.

In addition to the 5 km and 10 km races, children's runs (350 m and 1 km) will also take place, and a family day will be held on April 12 in Valga's central square. All finishers will receive a medal and refreshments provided by the organizers.

In the 5 km and 10 km races, the top three men and women in the overall standings will receive special awards, while the top three in each age category will be rewarded with prizes.

Community Program and Most Active Company

Like last year, the community program will determine the most active schools and kindergartens in the Valga and Valka municipalities. Special participation fees apply to children and youth, and the most active classes and kindergarten groups will compete for additional prizes. "Last year, the community program was a new initiative, but with experience now behind us, we expect even greater participation—from teachers and parents alike, as they are the biggest role models for children," explained Margus Lepik. "Running and walking are easily accessible activities—aside from appropriate footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, nothing else is needed. Just show up and enjoy moving at your own pace, whether alone or with company," he encouraged. To take advantage of the special registration fee, parents should contact their child’s teacher by March 31.

Adults have not been forgotten either, as the event will also determine the most active team. Schools, kindergartens, and workplace teams can collect activity points not only by finishing races but also by volunteering. For more details, email cityrun@triatloniakadeemia.ee.

The Valga Valka City Run takes place on April 13, with the competition center located in Valga's central square. The program includes children's runs, a 5 km race, and a 10 km race. Walkers are also welcome to participate. A day before the event, on April 12 at 2:00 PM, a fun-filled family day will be held in Valga's central square.

The second early-bird registration period ends on March 16, and online registration is open until April 9. For more information and event guidelines, visit the Valga Valka City Run website: valgavalkacityrun.eu.
